ABOUT Malorie
Iowa State University, Freshman
I love my college because…
it is close to home and it has the best veterinarian medical school in the state of Iowa. I have wanted to become a vet for as long as I can remember. Iowa State was the first place I toured and it was fall and the campus was beautiful. It’s a big campus and there are tons of great traditions here. I wanted to go somewhere that would fit my academic needs, personal needs, and have great school spirit. I have found so many friends through Iowa State and they will be there for me no matter what. I have found exactly what I want to do with my future job and I have great professors and an academic advisor that guides me to where I need to be. We have great school spirit. If you have witnessed Hilton Magic, which is what we use for basketball then you truly understand how much we all love this University. Everyone here is so supportive of our sports teams, all the academic and non academic clubs on campus, intramural sports, the honors program and the Greek community. I’m so glad I found my home here at Iowa State, I couldn’t imagine having anywhere else be my home away from home.
I really hate when…
people make a promise and they break it. But not only do they break it, they make up an excuse to why they didn’t keep the promise.
I’m majoring in…
Animal Science/Pre Vet, and I want to either own my own practice one day or become a general veterinarian surgeon and work at an animal hospital. I’ve always wanted to be something medical but I love animals and it works perfectly. I want to help animals and make them better and figure out what might be wrong with them so I can see their owners smile with relief because pets make the world a better place. I can’t imagine the world without them. I want to help them and in return they will help us.
My hometown is awesome because…
it’s pretty big. It’s one of the fastest growing cities in the country right now and has a lot of opportunities and places to live. There are tons of family businesses and restaurants around the city. Ankeny has 2 high schools, so it was kind of cool growing up with people from a different school then me but the most important days were the rivalry game days. Those were my favorite games. My high school soccer team won state in 2015 and it was one of the greatest moments of growing up in Ankeny.
At school, you can find me…
involved in the sorority Alpha Delta Pi. I think it’s a great way to meet people and get to know your friends for life. They are your sisters and they will always be there for you. Alpha Delta Pi’s philanthropy is Ronald McDonald House of Charity. We collect pop tabs and donate them to the RMHC around the country and they use those to pay for their utility bills. We host 2 philanthropy events during the school year and all the money raised is donated to the foundation. It’s really cool to be apart of something so much bigger than myself and being able to see the change that we are making. Within Alpha Delta Pi, I am involved in something called ‘Yell Like Hell.’ It’s where you stomp, clap, and sing and you put on a play. You get painted from head to toe in red and yellow for Iowa State and hope you win the whole thing. I am also involved in the Veterinarian Club. We go to animal shelters and walk dogs and play with the kittens and other small animals. We also promote it around campus to adopt the pets there so it isn’t so full.
My favorite late night study snack is definitely…
chocolate chip filled croissants. You just take croissants and put a small handful of chocolate chips in the center and roll them up. You bake them for the time it says and they are so delicious.
If I could change one thing about the world, it would be…
the attitude people have. People have become so hateful and judge mental and I wish it wasn’t that way. People are being bullied in middle school and even elementary. It shouldn’t be like that. School was a wonderful time for me and younger kids don’t get to even enjoy it like they should. It’s sad that the world has become so cruel to everyone. I wish everyone could get a long and everything would fall into place.
If my high school self could talk to me now, she would say…
quit worrying about what others think of you, it will not matter after you graduate. Friends will come and go and you will learn who is a true friend once you go your separate ways for college and only a few will stay in touch.
I’m going to be Miss COED 2017 because…
it’s something that I feel like would boost my confidence. And I want to be able to set a good example for myself to girls younger than me all around the country. When I got the message saying they thought I’d be a good fit to represent my University it made me realize that I’m so much more than what I see myself as. I’m just excited to be given a chance. I want young women to feel more confident about themselves and realize how truly beautiful and amazing they are.
