ABOUT Brittany
University of Kentucky, Senior
I love my college because…
WHY would I go anywhere else? UK has always felt like home to me and I never thought I could have that on a large campus. Let’s not forget the sports teams… who could turn down a school with the best basketball team in the nation? It’s really hard to even explain the feeling of pride I get when I walk into another city wearing UK from head to toe screaming “GO CATS!” For example, spring break in Texas right after we beat Texas A&M for the SEC championship was a blast!
I really hate when…
people are passive aggressive instead of saying exactly how they feel or what they think. It’s not that hard to be straight forward! Go for what you want, you deserve it!
I major in…
Kinesiology on a medical track. I want to work in pediatric oncology. I’ve always wanted to work at St. Jude in Memphis, however, they’re currently building a Shriners right here in the wonderful city of Lexington and I may have to stick around for that! I intend on saving every child’s life that I can – and the ones I can’t? I just hope that I can be there to make every single one of their last days as happy and memorable as possible.
At school, you can find me…
as a founding member of the Alpha Chi Omega-Delta Omega chapter at the University of Kentucky. I helped to start this wonderful sorority my junior year of college and it’s been more than amazing. I also hold leadership positions as Dance Chair and Greek Sing Chair in this sorority. Outside of my sorority, I also participate in Team Wildcat and intramural sports.
The coolest class I’ve taken so far is…
a First Aid and emergency car class where we became CPR & First Aid certified. I thought this class was super cool because it was actually related to something I wanted to do, the first step on a really long ladder!
My ideal first date would be…
a simple dinner. The shy part of me wants to scream to see a movie because then it’s really easy to avoid interaction, but if I’m actually trying to get to know a guy, dinner is the better way to go. I’m really simple; it’s not that hard to please a girl, guys! First dates… yikes.
My favorite late night study snack is definitely…
EVERYTHING. When studying, especially for finals week where I study hours upon hours, I eat everything! From popcorn and potato chips to salads and sandwiches and peanuts! I’m not that picky!
If I had 24 hours left to live, I would…
spend them with my mom. I do what I can to have some adventure in my life right now because being a full-time student and working two jobs can get exhausting sometimes, but when it comes down to it, my family is all that matters. After losing my dad last year, I realized that anything can happen at any moment. My mom is also very sick right now and I try to spend any time I can with her. She is my rock, and I know that I am hers. I would choose to spend time with her over anything, any day!
If I could change one thing about the world, it would be…
the hate. Blacks, whites, straights, gays, males, females, Republican, Democrat. Who says that one has to be superior to the other? Sometimes things just are the way they are and people believe how they want to believe. This world will never be “great” until we learn to love each other.
I’m going to be Miss COED 2017 because…
my 21 years of life hasn’t been easy. My grandfather was murdered, I lost my dad tragically when he was hit by a car, I grew up in a town overrun by drugs and ignorance. Yet, I came out fighting and as strong as ever. I want to show people that your past and what you go through doesn’t define you. I’m here making my dreams come true and so can everyone else, despite the circumstances. And going to college, making something of yourself, it doesn’t mean that you have to give up anything. I work two jobs, I serve and I’m a gymnastics coach. I go on spring break trips (shoutout to South Padre). I go out with friends, I joined a sorority. If you stay focused and keep busy, you can do whatever you want in life. You don’t have to choose between success or fun and you definitely don’t have to turn them both down because of unfortunate circumstances. You do you.
