ABOUT Ashley
Creighton University, Sophomore
I love my college because…
of the friendly and supportive student body and because the surrounding area of Omaha has a homey feel to it; it’s a bonus that we get all four seasons here too!
I really hate when…
people chew gum while talking, especially in front of a class!
I major in…
English and Secondary Education; my dream is to become a high school English teacher, then a professor at a university, then the president of a university, and hopefully become the Secretary of Education for the Department of Education.
My hometown is awesome because…
home is where my family is. I’m a proud Air Force brat who has moved 12 times in 19 years of life, but my family is currently stationed at the Air Force Academy so that’s home right now. My favorite part about living in Colorado is the fact that you never run out of things to do; you can hike a mountain, ride your bike, go skiing or snowboarding, rock climbing; the choices are endless!
At school, you can find me…
as the Manager and Statistician for the Men’s Club Lacrosse team, and I play Intramural tennis in my spare time. I’m also an Intramural Referee and work at the Creighton bookstore.
The coolest class I’ve taken so far is…
Understanding Diverse Populations. I love it, not only because my professor is hilarious and clearly has a deep passion for teaching, but also because the world is such a diverse place and education is where it all comes together. So it’s extremely important for people to understand others.
My ideal first date would be…
if the person makes my cheeks hurt from smiling so much, I’d consider it an amazing first date.
My favorite late night study snack is…
popcorn. I’m a popcorn junkie, so 9/10 times you will see me with a bag in my hand.
If I had 24 hours left to live, I would…
travel the world with my family so we could all complete our bucket lists.
If I could change one thing about the world, it would be…
hunger. [It] effects so much of the world but is probably the easiest thing we can actually change. No one should have to worry about whether or not they’ll have food to eat for that day or week, if we could limit the food we throw out at restaurants or our houses, we could start to change the world one meal at a time.
If I could give my younger self one piece of advice, I would say…
to take those essays seriously! A lot of people don’t realize that in college, almost every class you take will require you to write at least one essay; whether it’s astronomy, education, calculus, theology, or philosophy, you will NEED to be able to write an amazing essay.
I’m going to be Miss COED 2017 because…
this is my way of trying to pay my family and friends back for all the support and guidance they’ve given me to help me get where I am today.
