ABOUT Cara
University of Louisiana at Monroe, Sophomore
I love my college because….
it felt like home to me from the beginning. From the atmosphere, to the students, to the teachers, everything just felt hospitable. My classmates always strive to help me with any problems I have in or out of class, and my professors care deeply about whether their students pass or fail. I also love to tailgate at the football games with my friends! We play games, listen to music, and best of all, we cookout! At every tailgate, our president, Dr. Nick Bruno, does his best to talk to everyone and introduce himself. ULM wants all of their students to exceed academically, as well as socially. I feel like you can’t find those qualities just anywhere. I am so grateful that I get to call myself a Warhawk!
I really hate when…
people don’t show common courtesy. I always try and hold the door for people, or say ‘excuse me’ if I bump into someone, and when people don’t show me the same respect, it makes me question their hospitality.
I major in…
Pre-Pharmacy. After my three years of undergraduate schooling, and my four years of graduate school, I plan to work in a hospital. Eventually, I’ll get enough money to pay off my loans and hopefully open my very own pharmacy!
My hometown is awesome because…
When the weekends come around, I get so anxious to go home. I can’t go home every weekend because I am three hours away, so when I do go home, it’s a treat! My hometown is very small. We have one traffic light (not even a stop light). My house is so beautiful. It’s a big plantation house with a white fence in front of it. The atmosphere is just very calming and relaxing. There’s nothing like getting home from a long week of tests and stressing, and laying out by the pool to get my tan on!
At school, you can find me…
involved in Phi Mu Fraternity at ULM. It has been a great experience so far. I am also involved in a professional organization called Pre-Pharmacy Organization or PPO. I also plan to be a part of Prep Staff, which is basically an organization in which students introduce incoming freshmen to ULM.
The coolest class I’ve taken so far is…
Public Speaking. I love to speak in front of people, and although it does make me nervous, I love the feeling of finishing a speech and feeling a sense of accomplishment as the rest of my classmates applaud me.
My favorite late night study snack is…
a bag of hot fries. I use it as a reward system. So when I get to a certain point in studying or homework, I reward myself with some yummy hot fries!
If I had 24 hours left to live, I would…
use 12 of those hours to blow all of my money that I have been saving. Then I would take the last 12 hours and spend them with my family because without their love and support, I would never be where I am today.
If I could change one thing about the world, it would be…
world peace. I’ve always thought it was an obvious escape from a meaningful answer, but if you think about it, 90% of the world’s problems arise from conflict. Although it will probably never happen, world peace would be my ideal change to this world.
If I could give my younger self one piece of advice, I would say…
I wasted so much time worrying about what my friends thought of me. I was always concerned about who I wanted to date. Now that I’m in college, I want to just slap some sense into my old self for being a dumb girl! I would tell my old self to let your true friends show themselves, and don’t worry about a boyfriend because there will be PLENTY of cute boys in college.
I’m going to be Miss COED 2017 because…
in high school, I was a tomboy jock who would have turned her nose up at this opportunity, but I feel like a new person since I’ve moved to ULM. I feel like a better person, and I love that I’ve changed for the better. I’d love to be Miss COED 2017 so that I can show you the intelligent, athletic, outgoing, funny, and nice person I can be.
