University of Miami, Sophomore

I love my college because…

I had a hard time picking between the U and another school when I was making my decision, but what ultimately sealed the deal was the fact that we don’t just offer stellar academics. Sure, the University of Miami offers small class sizes, hundreds of majors/minors, and many research labs and internship opportunities, but we also have a lakeside sports bar, an outdoor pool (also lakeside), a prime location only 15 minutes from downtown, and the luxury of being set in affluent Miami suburb. To top that off, there are tons of clubs and organizations just waiting for students to get involved in, an inclusive and supportive Greek community, sports games year round (with the best tailgates in the nation), unrivaled nightlife, and obviously, the most attractive student body on the East Coast.

I really hate when…

people pretend they know everything about UM but only know the misconceptions about our school. We’re a private university with less than 10,000 students, our campus isn’t in South Beach, and we are so much more than just a party school.

I (double) major in…

Economics and Psychology with a minor in Italian. Right now I’m considering law school, but I’m open to so many options. One of the most interesting [jobs] to me would be working at a financial risk management firm. However, I also want to incorporate my psychology background, so perhaps a job in behavioral economics would be up my alley as well.

My hometown is awesome because…

I really love how close everything is. I’m from Manalapan, New Jersey, a town of about 40,000 people in central New Jersey (yes, it exists). I’m equidistant from New York City and Philadelphia and only 25 minutes from my nearest beach. I’m also incredibly close to a lot of other cities, which is perfect for weekend trips to places like Boston, Providence, Baltimore, and Washington D.C., just to name a few.

The coolest class I’ve taken so far is…

a psychology course entitled ‘Drugs On Behavior.’ The coursework was a lot of chemistry, which made it challenging, but learning the effects of various substances on the structure and function of the brain was definitely interesting.

My ideal first date would be…

I don’t care what we do or where we go, but if I have butterflies by the end of the date and can’t wait to see the guy again, that is the ideal first date.

My favorite late night study snack is definitely…

popcorn drizzled with sriracha, and lots of it.

If I had 24 hours left to live, I would…

do all of the little things I have been to afraid to do like tell that one boy I’ve liked forever how I really feel, ride a motorcycle, skydive, skinny dip, and go for a hot air balloon ride.

If I could change one thing about the world, it would be…

that no one would ever die from cancer ever again. I would just completely eradicate the disease from this planet.

If my high school self could talk to me now, she would say…

that nothing in high school matters. Petty high school drama is just a blip on your radar. And never stop being yourself because once you stop being yourself, you’re just boring.

I’m going to be Miss COED 2017 because…

I represent my fellow Canes extremely well, and I live, breathe, and bleed green and orange.
