University of Louisville, Junior

I love my college because…

I think that the campus is beautiful. It’s compact into a single area that is walkable with no roads through campus unlike most major state schools and all of the people are very personable and friendly. Everyone will reach out to you and make sure that everything is going okay and you are on the track you want to be on, which I didn’t experience at my first school my freshman year of college. UofL is a wonderful environment with plenty of entertainment around so there is never a dull moment. I love the area and the college. Sure Orlando was fun at UCF my freshman year, but it has nothing on UofL. I wish I would have made this decision at the beginning of my college career. 100% diehard Cards fanatic now. L1C4.

I really hate when…

I have to repeat myself because people aren’t paying attention to me because of their phone. I find it truly disrespectful to be playing on your phone when someone is talking to you and then asking them what they said.

I major in…

Biology for a Bachelor’s of Science and I intend to take that all the way to Dental School where I want to specialize in orthodontics. I chose this major because I have had so many troubles with braces and mouth surgeries… it’s unreal. I had braces four times, two mouth surgeries, every baby tooth had to be pulled, and I had my wisdom teeth taken out. It wasn’t fun, to say the least. But it got me interested in the field of study. Science also happens to be my strong suit in school and I find it capture my attention.

My hometown is awesome because…

it’s EXTREMELY diverse in its setting, especially around where I live. I can drive two minutes in one direction and be completely surrounded by horse farms and the country. I won’t see a single building except for stables. The race track is only a mile away from my house. It’s a great getaway. However, I can drive two minutes the other way and be in downtown Lexington, surrounded by skyscrapers and Rupp Arena. It’s a busy downtown like you would picture. It’s honestly the best of both worlds. You can go wherever you’re feeling that day!

At school, you can find me…

rushing a sorority this year and also trying to get involved in student government. I am a part of the Dental Society at UofL. Also, last year I was on the Large Coed Cheerleading Team for UofL and we won the 2016 NCA Collegiate Cheerleading Nationals Competition.

My ideal first date would be…

to have a boy come pick me up. Like actually come to my front door and bring flowers for me. Something to show me he cares and is actually trying. Then he would take me out to dinner, somewhere nice, somewhere we both enjoy. I’m not a picky person so I don’t really care where. Afterward, I would like to go to the B4 walking bridge in Louisville. It’s a bridge that you can walk on over to Indiana. It’s all lit up at night and really pretty. I just want to see it and walk around it for a little. Then we could just go back to my house and watch movies on the couch and cuddle, honestly. I’m a very simplistic person. Not too high maintenance. Guys are lucky!

My favorite late night study snack is definitely…

popsicles!! I eat those like they are nothing! I go through like a whole box in a sitting!!! It’s so bad! Oh, and Goldfish. Holy moly, it’s deadly!

If I could change one thing about the world, it would be…

everyone’s outlook on life. Everyone is so negative and it spreads like wildfire. I don’t understand. Be happy. There is good in every day. Every day may not be perfect, but there is something to smile about every day and if you can find that then the world would be a much better place with a lot less fighting I promise.

If I could give my younger self one piece of advice, I would say…

“Focus, Alyssa. Don’t quit. Don’t give up on yourself. Don’t give up on your dreams. You can do this. A bump in the road isn’t the end of the world. Have the confidence in yourself that everyone else sees. You can do it.”

I’m going to be Miss Coed 2017 because…

it would be an amazing opportunity for me to get out more in my college and meet more people since I used to be so involved in cheer and so much of my time went there, I never did anything besides that. It would force me to put myself out there and meet others; actually using the social skills that I have! As you can tell, I’m a very talkative person! It would be an opportunity to just hopefully make someone’s day and get them to smile. Show them that there is something good going on whether they can see it or not. It would give me a chance to hopefully form some amazing new friendships that I otherwise wouldn’t be able to. Overall, I think I could do a good job because I could be a good advocate and I could be someone who could get myself know and out on campus a lot. It would be a great opportunity for me to be Miss COED 2017!
