ABOUT Sarah

University of California, Los Angeles, Sophomore

I love my school because…

UCLA is full of passionate and driven students who all have big goals for themselves but are still willing to help their fellow classmates succeed. It is the perfect balance of drive and support, where fun and enjoying the college process are just as important as a gaining a superior education.

My hometown is awesome because…

Northern Virginia is suburbia plus a city (Washington DC) in your backyard. I cannot imagine growing up in a more nurturing environment that still allowed me to find adventure and explore exciting places whenever I pleased.

At school, you can find me…

in the Alpha Chi chapter of Alpha Delta Pi! I am President of the B+ Foundation at UCLA, a dancer in our 26 hour Dance Marathon for the Pediatric AIDs Coalition, a performer in Vagina Monologues 2016, I work on the Production team for LIPS 2017, and sang as Jasmine in Aladdin during UCLA’s Spring Sing 2016.

The coolest class I’ve taken so far is…

definitely Global Studies: Visiting Fulbright Scholars, where graduate and PhD students from abroad spoke to our small class about the perceptions of America seen in their home countries. We were then able to discuss the effects of globalization around the world with the scholars; it was an incredibly eye-opening experience.

My ideal first date would be…

something you don’t normally do on a daily basis that lets you talk, but also provides an activity— like going to a fair, or an amusement park, or bowling.

My favorite late night study snack is definitely…

cheese and crackers!

If I had 24 hours left to live, I would…

spend them with family, my closest friends, and doing the things I’ve always said I’d do, like skydiving!

If I could change one thing about the world, it would be…

the divisions amongst communities caused by religion and politics.

If my high school self could talk to me now, she would say…

‘Well, you sure eased up.’ I wouldn’t say I was the most laid back person in high school. I had very big goals for myself and could not see at the time that success did not mean giving up fun. Learning how to find the balance of letting go and taking control is the greatest lesson I’ve learned since college.

I’m going to be Miss COED 2017 because…

I’d like to believe I represent the qualities and attributes of being a UCLA Bruin. I am a driven and compassionate individual, with big aspirations for myself and every intention of seeing them through. I am confident, caring, and jump at the chance to build-up those around me. Every now and then I’d say I’m pretty fun and charming, and I live by the belief that no one should take themselves too seriously. It would be an honor to be Miss COED 2017.
