University of Colorado – Boulder, Sophmore

I love my college because…

how much better could it get? Just a quick walk outside and you have access to too many hiking trails to count, as well as being just minutes away from the mountains. Besides the obvious geographical amenities that Boulder has to offer, its academic history is stunning. CU boasts numerous Nobel Laureates, along with an award-winning staff of authors, writers, scientists, artists, and much more. One of the main things that drew me to CU was that it is a very active political and social hub, where constructive conversations are never ending. I love this about CU because it has challenged my mind and my beliefs, especially since I see myself working in politics in the future, this has been very beneficial. CU also has an incredible study abroad program, where all students in all majors are encouraged to go abroad, and that is especially appealing to me since I am a very restless person. Besides the academic strengths that CU offers, I’m sure what everyone wants to hear is about the social life. Any night of the week you can find something going on at the hill, and the typical weekend parties are nothing short of straight out of a movie. CU is the best of both worlds – inspiring educationally and more than a great time socially.

I really hate when…

people say things that have no support or basis behind them. It makes me feel like I am back in high school, where rumors with no truth behind them continuously get spread. If you don’t know if what you’re saying is true or not, DON’T SAY IT.

I major in…

International Affairs and minor in Spanish. Upon graduating, I want to serve in the Peace Corps or another humanitarian based organization. After I do my service to humanity and travel, I would like to attend law school or graduate school, and then following that, I want to pursue a career in politics, primarily foreign politics.

At school…

I was part of CU’s Model United Nations team my freshman year where my partner and I went to the National Model United Nations Conference in Washington D.C. and placed as one of the conference’s top delegations. I have been a research assistant for two separate professors and their projects at CU, and I plan to do more stints as a research assistant. I’m part of the College Democrats here on campus, was an on-camera reporter for CU Sports Mag freshman year, and I am also very involved in Boulder’s music scene.

The coolest class I’ve taken so far is…

called “Deviance in U.S. Society.” It’s incredible how our societal norms are perpetuated by the majorities and minorities of the country. I could go on all day about this subject.

My ideal first date would be…

in a tropical place such as Costa Rica. The man would be a classic gentleman, picking me up at my place of residence, and then we would go ride horses on the beach. After that, we would come back to a gourmet dinner inside a lit cabana. But, since that is very far-fetched and specific, I love going to see concerts, and it would be great if a guy and I went to get dinner at a nice restaurant and then went to see a band in a very underground, intimate venue. Also, anything that has to do with the outdoors is a big plus.

My favorite late night study snack is definitely…

anything chocolate. I am absolutely obsessed with chocolate, and that’s not an exaggeration. Dark chocolate covered pretzels are everything I could dream of, salty and sweet.

If I had 24 hours left to live, I would…

immediately gather my family and go to Costa Rica and attempt to do every activity that we could possibly do in 24 hours. Family is everything to me.

If I could change one thing about the world, it would be…

how we are so quick to jump to violence as the solution to every conflict. I’m not sure where the concept of talking our problems out went, but I think how violent the world has become is appalling.

I’m going to be Miss Coed 2017 because…

I believe Miss COED 2017 should be a strong woman, who also represents the best part of her college. I love CU. Being at CU has had such an immense effect on me. I have opened my horizons and found new talents and passions. I have also become more in tune with the world, understanding that there is more to life than just where I am in that moment. CU has also connected me with the most incredible friends that I know I will have with me for a lifetime. I want to show the U.S. just what CU has to offer, academically and socially, and this is the perfect outlet to do that!
