ABOUT Breanna
East Carolina University, Sophomore
I love my college because…
for as long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to attend East Carolina University. My family has been a part of the Pirate Nation for many years and it is an honor to continue my education at this University. ECU is truly one of a kind. Here we have something to suit everyone’s needs. If you wish to get involved with the student body and community outside of class, ECU offers many opportunities to make your time here enjoyable and worthwhile. Upon entering ECU my first semester, I was blown away by the spirit and pride our student body and staff members encompass. No matter what sporting event you may attend you’ll always find a sea full of Pirates! Oh, and our baseball team absolutely killed it this year… so keep an eye out for us next season.
I major in…
Public Health and minor in Pre-Health Professions. I wish to earn my Bachelor’s in this field and continue to graduate school in hopes of becoming a physician’s assistant. I chose this career path after numerous encounters with our Wounded Warriors. My dad is currently serving in the United States Marine Corps, and growing up as a military child I have been inspired to give back to our veterans by way of providing medical care to our nation’s heroes.
My hometown is awesome because…
well, I actually don’t have one at all. Instead of having roots in one specific place, I have been given the amazing opportunity to travel the country and make friends from all over the world. East Coast to West Coast, North to South. I’ve been able to experience it all. I even spent the majority of my childhood growing up on the beautiful island of Oahu, Hawaii. Who else can say that?
At school, you can find me…
dressed up as Disney Princesses/characters and visiting the children’s hospital to put some smiles on their faces as a member of Princesses On A Mission. I wanted to start my college career off strong, so I opted out of many clubs except for one. This fall, I will also be participating in NPC Recruitment 2016.
The coolest class I’ve taken so far is…
Global Anthropology. Hands down. ECU offers global understanding courses, in which we connect to other college students from around the globe. For my specific class, we had student partners located in Beijing, China. I enjoyed this class because it gave you the interpersonal experience that you may gain from studying abroad. We were able to discuss our cultural differences and how to strengthen our cultural intelligence. This class also sparked my interest and reassurance in studying abroad, which I hope to do in Summer 2017.
My ideal first date would be…
I’m sort of old-fashioned. So for starters, no phones. Ideally, we would be engaged in active conversation while having dinner (definitely Italian). After dinner perhaps grab some ice cream and continue to genuinely get to know one another. Now that the night was buttered up with some romance and quality time… I would then destroy them in a game of laser tag.
My favorite late night study snack is definitely…
milkshakes or fries. I am an absolute sucker for going on a milkshake and fry run. You don’t eat the two separately, though. Carefully remove the lid from your milkshake and shove those fries in there. Trust me, it’s delicious.
If I had 24 hours left to live, I would…
somehow gather everyone I love, everyone who has had an impact on me, and share my love and admiration for every single one of them. I hold my loved ones very near and dear to my heart. I would also like to attempt trying all of the things I’m afraid of, just so I could say I conquered my fears. These fears are things such as heights, roller coasters, giving a speech in front of thousands of people. Not anything too dramatic, thankfully.
If your high school self could talk to you now, what do you think she would say…
“Thank you.” High School was a rough time for me. Between moving constantly, trying to find myself, and figuring out what I wanted to do with my life… I often felt discouraged. I had made the decision to stop feeling sorry for myself and a flame of determination was ignited once more. I believe she would thank me for pushing through and never failing to reach for the stars.
I’m going to be Miss COED 2017 because…
I believe I have many of the qualities a woman in such a position should encompass. A woman in a position of such influence should motivate other women to succeed, to never be shy of their intelligence, to pursue everything with a full heart, and to never apologize for being who they are. I wish to take on this position and use it to help women my age embrace their femininity while being strong, determined, go-getters. To be able to do so would be such an honor and a reward.
