Marshall University, Senior

MY COLLEGE KICKS ASS BECAUSE…

Marshall University is my home away from home. Not only do I live on a beautiful campus, but I also go to school with well-driven students who are able to have fun Thursday-Saturday but still work hard. I love the diversity that my school has to offer as well as the history behind it. What truly made me fall in love with this school was the fountain ceremony that is held every year on the anniversary of the 1970 plane crash that took the lives of 75 people. On a typical day, you will see and hear students partying, but on this particular day, the campus truly is silent, and for me, that is a heart-wrenching experience. Not only does the Marshall family come together but the whole community shows up. You have not truly had the Marshall experience without going to this ceremony, and of course, a football game! Yelling ‘We are Marshall’ throughout the stadium is by far the best thing in the world.

THE COOLEST PLACE TO PARTY ON CAMPUS IS…

I would say as a member of Greek life, my favorite place to party is on frat row. I spend most of my partying time with the men of Alpha Sigma Phi, not only because they are all such gentlemen, but because they are all such a good time. I don’t think I have ever left their house and not had a good time. They also have the best DJ around; he even opened for the Ying Yang Twins! If we are not at frat row, my sisters and I are normally going to the Ale House where we can drink and dance the night away!

I MAJOR IN…

My major is management and economics. I plan to go to grad school to get a masters in education where I will then become an intervention teacher for middle school children. There was a program set up at my middle school for kids who had behavior issues or not the best home life. The program is set up to where they can work at school in the cafeteria, with janitors, or even the secretary so that they can earn money of their own and so that they have something to actually look forward to and perhaps keep them out of trouble. I’ve always wanted to make a difference in other’s lives, and I feel that this is the perfect way for me to do so!

OH YEAH, AND YOU SHOULD PROBABLY KNOW THAT…

One thing that you should know about me is that, even though I love to have a good time, I am a very work-driven person. I have had a job since I was 12-years-old and haven’t stopped since. I pay for college by myself and get no help from FASFA because my parents make too much money. My parents are unable to provide for me because I have four younger siblings that they have to take care of, not to mention I am the first in my entire family to attend college. Since I’ve started at Marshall, I’ve joined numerous clubs where I’ve held high positions as well as had two jobs and a full course load. My freshman/sophomore year I was even driving 3 hours back home due to a cancerous lump found in my breast, but none of this has stopped me from living the full college experience, and for that, I am extremely greatful.

AT SCHOOL, I’M INVOLVED IN…

I am involved in numerous activities on campus including Delta Zeta (social sorority) where I currently hold the position of Standards Chair and Parliamentarian. I am the Vice President of Panhellenic which is the governing body over sorority life; I am in Delta Sigma Phi (business fraternity), where I held the position of pledge educator; I am a Resident Advisor in the freshman building; I am a member of student government; I have been a member of the National Honor Society since my freshman year; I was also involved in Hall Council my freshman and sophomore years, where I held the position of Vice President; I have recently become a part of the Campus Activities Board as well. This upcoming school year, I will get to represent Marshall as a peer mentor for the freshman class, and last but most certainly not least, I am a part of the Marshall Maniacs where I get to cheer my team on for every game!

IF YOU COULD TRAVEL ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, WHERE WOULD YOU GO?

If I could go anywhere in the world, I would travel to Germany. When I was in the fifth grade, my best friend since I was in dipers was supposed to be going on vacation for the summer to Germany to visit her mother’s family. Unfortunately, I came to find out that her mother ended up getting deported, and now I can only keep in touch with my friend through Facebook. From pictures that she has showed me, Germany is so beautiful. Plus, let’s not forget that they all know how to have a good time and can handle their liquor.

WHY DO YOU WANT TO BE MISS COED 2016?

I want to be Miss COED 2016 because I think it would be an amazing opportunity. Besides who wouldn’t want to be Miss COED 2016?!
