University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Junior
Why did you choose your school and what makes it better than the rest?
I have always loved UNC because my father graduated from the university in 1991. I grew up attending sporting events and, as our fight song goes, was literally “Tar Heel born and Tar Heel bred.” UNC has been my dream school for as long as I could remember, but I knew being accepted would be very difficult. I love going to a school that is academically rigorous as well as highly competitive in athletics. This year, our men’s basketball team won the NCAA National Championship!
What’s your favorite spot on campus?
There is no way to choose between the Dean E. Smith Center, where men’s basketball games are held, and Kenan Memorial Stadium, our football stadium. There is nothing like a Carolina game day and a Carolina victory!
What is the best on-campus food?
I am a very picky eater, so this is not the best question for me. I love having Chic-Fil-A and Subway on campus, though!
What kind of activities are you involved in? (sorority, theatre, clubs, etc)
I am a Varsity Cheerleader for the men’s basketball and football teams. We practice two to three times per week and have weight lifts twice a week in the football center in addition to any games or charity appearances we have. I am also in Phi Mu at UNC and serve as the chapter’s historian and a day chair for recruitment. I love being a part of the VP’s cabinet. Our sorority was named the Chapter of the Year two years in a row in 2016 and 2017. All of our philanthropy events benefit Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. In addition, I am a new member of UNC Best Buddies, which is a volunteer organization that pairs UNC students with people in the community with intellectual and developmental disabilities. I was inspired to join this year when I learned about it because my younger sister, Halie, has autism. I hope to be paired with my own buddy this semester!
If you had to choose one social media to use for the year, what would it be and why?
Probably Twitter because I think it’s not only a great source for connecting with friends, communities, etc. but also provides a place to remain updated on the latest news, sporting events, television shows, etc.
What’s your major/what are you thinking of majoring in?
I am a double major in Political Science and Communications with a concentration in Media and Production.
Who’s the most famous graduate from your school?
What do you know now that you wish you knew as a freshman?
I definitely know a lot more about registering for classes, how to manage my time, how to take care of myself mentally amongst a lot of stress, as well as knowing the campus.
Do you have a favorite sports team?
The Tar Heels, of course!
