An incredible new video has just washed up on the shores of the internet. A snorkeling enthusiast jumped into the ocean and unintentionally woke up a humpback whale, who swam up and breached the surface of the water, before splashing back into the sea only yards away from the surprised snorkelers.
The video was recorded in French Polynesia off the tiny island of Mo’orea on October 5, and was released to the world wide web on Monday, October 23. The snorkeling enthusiast who captured the scene on video said that he and a fellow snorkeler “spotted a humpback whale that was apparently sleeping. So we jumped in the water and watched it with our masks and snorkels.”
This daring scuba dude described his stunning encounter with the yuge humpback whale. At first, the mammoth sea mammal was tired, and not doing much. But then it swam up and out of the blue ocean, smacking back down into the waters, and causing an earth-shattering splash.
The snorkelers recalls that, “The waves were very big that day so it wasn’t easy to swim. The whale slowly started to swim and wasn’t doing much for quite some time.”
The diver continued his tale about the whale, “Suddenly it bent its whole body and started to swim to the surface very quickly and breached through the high waves directly next to us. I tried to keep on the surface to get the second jump but wasn’t able as the waves pushed me down.”
