HBO Announces 2-Hour ‘Game Of Thrones: The Last Watch’ Documentary

The Last Watch will be a special documentary airing on HBO following the final season of the hit series Game of Thrones. HBO announced the two-hour Game of Thrones: The Last Watch documentary on Wednesday, March 27.

The documentary will premiere on Sunday, May 26 from 9:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. ET/PT.

“Debuting SUNDAY, MAY 26 (9:00–11:00 p.m. ET/PT), one week after the series finale, GAME OF THRONES: THE LAST WATCH delves deep into the mud and blood to reveal the tears and triumphs involved in the challenge of bringing the fantasy world of Westeros to life in the very real studios, fields and car-parks of Northern Ireland,” the press release read.

“Made with unprecedented access, The Last Watch is an up-close and personal report from the trenches of production, following the crew and the cast as they contend with extreme weather, punishing deadlines and an ever-excited fandom hungry for spoilers.”

It promises to provide “a funny, heartbreaking story, told with wit and intimacy, about the bittersweet pleasures of what it means to create a world — and then have to say goodbye to it.

The documentary was filmed by acclaimed British filmmaker Jeanie Finlay, who was on the set of Game of Thrones throughout the filming of the final season. The documentary is a Glimmer Films production.

Game of Thrones season 8 will premiere on Sunday, April 14, 2019, at 9:00 p.m. ET. You can watch every episode on HBO, HBO Go, and HBO Now. After waiting nearly two years for the final season of the most popular show on television, fans now have a taste of what to expect in the final episodes including the epic, episode-long battle that is expected to be the “longest consecutive action sequence in cinema history,” according to Entertainment Weekly.
