Jon Jones vs. Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 165 was one of the best fights we have ever seen in the light heavyweight division. So with the two 205-pounders set to face off in a rematch years later in the main event of UFC 232, it is the perfect time to take a look back at the instant classic.
During its promotion for the upcoming UFC 232 event, the Ultimate Fighting Championship dropped the full fight video from Jones vs. Gustafsson 1 online.
It was the first time in Jon Jones’ young career that he had truly been tested. Ultimately, he was able to squeak out a unanimous decision victory (48–47, 48–47, 49–46) to retain his light heavyweight title. Since then, however, fans have been calling for a rematch with Gustafsson and they will finally get their wish.
UFC 232 takes place Saturday, December 29 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. It will be the final UFC pay-per-view of the year. If Jones vs. Gustafsson 2 wasn’t enough to get you excited, the co-main event features one of the biggest women’s fights of all-time with UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes moving up a division to take on women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg.
The main card also features Carlos Condit vs. Michael Chiesa at welterweight, a light heavyweight scrap between Ilir Latifi and Corey Anderson, and a featherweight bout between Chad Mendes and Alexander Volkanovski to kick off the main card. MMA legend BJ Penn will also be making his return during the preliminary bouts.
