UFC 230 took place at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Saturday, November 3. In the co-main event of the night, top middleweight contenders Chris Weidman and Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza faced off in an attempt to climb the 185-pound ladder while angling for a title shot.
Serving as the lead-in to the main event between Daniel Cormier and Derrick Lewis, Weidman vs. Jacare delivered and kept fans on their feet with an incredible back-and-forth war that earned each fighter a $50,000 bonus for Fight of the Night.
Ultimately, it was Jacare who was able to land the final blow of the fight which led to a knockout win over the former titleholder.
Other standout performers on the night were Israel Adesanya and Jared Cannonier, who earned $50,000 bonuses for Performances of the Night. Adesanya scored a first-round TKO win over Derek Brunson to kick off the pay-per-view main card, while Cannonier established himself as one to watch at middleweight with a second-round dismantling of David Branch.
