Money In The Bank has become the PPV that could instantly make or break a superstars career. Since it’s inception as a Wrestlemania match merely intended to get a few extra names on the card the Money In The Bank Ladder Match has grown into a WWE mainstay. Now getting its own PPV and adding a Women’s incarnation last year, it seems the battle for the briefcase is quickly growing in importance in the WWE PPV landscape. It now is so much more than just the titular match. This year’s edition looks to be a barn burner. Here’s what to expect and where to watch it.
This year’s MITB will be the site of multiple grudge matches. Roman Reigns looks to get revenge on Jinder Mahal for costing him his shot at the MITB briefcase. The two have been viciously attacking each other almost every Monday night and now they’ll get a chance to get at each other in an official match on June 17. Not to be outdone SmackDown Live has its own grudge match to settle. After interfering with Daniel Bryan’s match with Samoa Joe, Big Cass finds himself on the outside looking in for the MITB match alongside Bryan. After losing to Bryan at Backlash, Big Cass double-downed on his disgust of Bryan. Now they get another chance to settle the score. Will the story from Backlash repeat itself or will Big Cass come out on top?
The championship scene is busy at MITB this year. Both Tag Team Titles will be put up for grabs at the show. Seth Rollins will continue his promise to be a fighting champion by taking on Elias. Carmella hopes to prove she belongs on the upper tier of the Women’s division by defending her title against Asuka. If she wins that would be back to back PPV victories against Women’s powerhouses. AJ Styles will be defending his WWE Championship against Shinsuke Nakamura again. The two will face off in a Last Man Standing match. But most likely the most anticipated match is Nia Jax vs. Ronda Rousey. The Irresistible Force will take on the legendary MMA fighter in her first ever WWE Title match. Rousey proved critics wrong at Wrestlemania 34, can she do it again?
The crown jewel of the MITB PPV are the Ladder matches themselves. The two matches are stacked with star power. The winner of last year’s Men’s MITB, Baron Corbin, failed to cash in with his briefcase and you can be sure the competitors this year don’t plan on letting that happen two years in a row. The 2017 MITB PPV saw the first ever Women’s MITB Ladder Match that was unfortunately sullied by the fact that a male superstar was actually the one who grabbed the briefcase for Carmella. With the field seemingly cleared of the possibility of it happening again, and a stacked group of incredible superstars, the Women’s MITB match is a must watch.
