Madeline Marx, a 23-year-old substitute teacher in Ohio, has been accused of having a sexual relationship with at least two of her teenage students. She was arrested at Kettering Fairmont High School on Wednesday, November 8.
Marx, who was teaching as a substitute in the district for two years, was booked into jail on two counts of sexual assault.
Police were notified of the allegations on November 8 when students went to the school’s principal saying they were concerned about the alleged relationship.
“We became aware (the teacher was) possibly involved in inappropriate activities with a juvenile. When we become aware of them then we will remove those people and not have them around our students,” said Kettering Superintendent Scott Inskeep.
Kettering Municipal court documents show Fairmont High School substitute teacher Madeline Marx is accused of having sex with two different 11th grade students.
The documents also state she admitted to Kettering police detectives to sending “several nude pictures” through Snap Chat and Instagram to one of the students.
Marx is accused of having sex with one of the students in July in the parking lot of Big Lots on Wilmington Pike in Kettering, the documents read. She also was accused of having sex with the other student in the parking lot of Van Buren Apartments on Smithville Road in September.
A Kettering Judge ordered Marx could be released on her own recognizance on the condition she lives with her father at his home while the case is pending.
Marx is being held in the Montgomery County Jail.
This is the latest in a string of teacher/student sex scandals this year. In November, Tennessee teacher Janet Smothers was arrested. Former nutrition teacher LaToya Parker was also arrested for a relationship with a student. Florida teacher Caroline Lawson was charged with sexual assault. 26-year-old Allyson Moran was also arrested for similar crimes. The 23-year-old high school teacher Katherine Ross Ridenhour was also arrested for an inappropriate relationship.
Kettering is a suburb of Dayton, Ohio with a population of approximmately 55,000 people.
