NYPD Officer Ryan Nash has been hailed a “hero” after stopping the suspect who killed 8 people and injuried 11 others in lower Manhattan on Tuesday. Nash shot and wounded the suspect, who drove a rented truck into pedestrians, bicylist, and a school bus.
The suspect, who Officer Nash shot, is currently recovering in the hospital, but is expected to survive. Nash reportedly shot the suspect, Sayfullo Saipov, in the abdomen after he exited his truck.

What Happened?


At around 3:20 P.M., the attack began when the alleged terror suspect, who has been identified as Sayfullo Saipov, directed his truck towards  the West Side Highway bicycle path at Houston Street and began driving southbound. The suspect’s vehicle began “striking a number of pedestrians and bicyclists along the route,” Police Commissioner James O’Neill said at a press conference. “At Chambers Street, the truck collided with a school bus,” and the driver “exited the vehicle brandishing two handguns.”


Officer Ryan Nash “confronted the subject and shot him in the abdomen.”
Commissioner O’Neil confirmed that the two handguns were really a paintbull gun and a pullet gun.
According to the New York Daily News, Officer Nash was in the area, as he was responding to a report of an emotionally-disturbed person at Stuyvesant High School.
Eight people perished during today’s attack in lower Manhattan. According to Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro, 11 people were seriously injured as a direct result of the incident. Although, the injuries may be serious, they are not life-threatening. The injured victims are currently being treated at a local hospital.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said, “NYPD is investigating this with our federal partners, with our state partners, there is going to be a very thorough investigation.”
32-year-old Darren Drake has been identified as one of the victim of Tuesday’s terror attack in New York City.


Who is Officer Ryan Nash?

Ryan Nash is an officer at New York City’s 1st precinct. He’s worked for the NYPD since 2012, according to his Facebook page. When the incident occurred on Halloween in lower Manhattan, Nash was on the scene with his uniform, according to a statement made by Commissioner James O’Neill in a press conference.
According to Newsday, Nash is a resident of Suffolk County, New York.


New York City councilman Joe Borelli tweeted, “Our hats off 2 Officer Ryan Nash & @NYPD1Pct who were 1st on scene, didn’t waiver, apprehended the (suspect), & saved lives. God bless the #NYPD.”


Officer Nash has been hailed as a hero for stopping terror suspect Sayfullo Saipov with a bullet to the abdomen. Commissioner O’Neil credits Nash’s as a life saver, saying that his quick action “saved lives.”
“I want to commend the response of our NYPD officer who was on post near the location who stopped the carnage moments after it began,” O’Neill said. “Along with the work of the first responders, including the fire department and EMS personnel, surely helped save additional lives.”
NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio spoke at a press conference, commending Nash for his actions in stopping a suspected terrorist. Bill de Blasio said, “I want to thank everyone at the NYPD, all our first responders for their extraordinary efforts in the midst of this tragedy, starting with the officer who stopped this tragedy from continuing.”
Governor Andrew Cuomo said, “to the first responders, thank you, thank you, thank you for the job you do. You put your life on the line everyday. And you do it better than anyone else.”
President Donald Trump took to Twitter to thank the first responders of today’s attack in lower Manhattan.
Trump tweeted out, “We offer our thanks to the first responders who stopped the suspect and rendered immediate aid to the victims of this cowardly attack. These brave men and women embody the true American spirit of resilience and courage.”
