Sara Mutschlechner, 20 Year Old North Texas Student, Murdered On New Year's Eve

Sara Mutschlechner, a 20-year old student at the University of North Texas and Zeta Tau Alpha sorority sister, was shot in the head while driving her friends back from a New Year’s Eve party.

Witnesses told police that Mutschlechner was the designated driver that night. She and several friends had left a New Year’s party when a black SUV pulled up next to their car and exchanged words with them, Denton police officer Shane Kizer told ABC News.
The exchange was “peaceful at first,” but the suspects then “made some comments towards the girls, and it escalated from there,” Kizer said.
Two or three rounds were fired at the young woman’s car, and Mutschlechner lost control and crashed into an electrical pole in Denton, Kizer said [source].

Police were called to the scene around 2 AM when they found Sara with a gunshot wound in her head. They took her to the hospital and put her on life support until later that day.

Police are currently looking for five or six African American males who were in the SUV, at least two of which were at the party with Sara.

News like this is always tragic to hear and read, but it becomes even tougher when you learn what a caring person Sara was. She was the philanthropy chair of Zeta Tau Alpha and had done some additional volunteer work for the American Cancer Society. Fittingly, Sara was also a registered organ donor and The Daily Mail reports that she has already saved the life of one burn victim.
On the evening of Sunday, January 2nd, friends and family held a candlelight vigil for Sara. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those affected by the tragic death.
