The Super Blood Moon comes to view tonight–that being Sunday, September 27, 2015, and you don’t want to waste all night staring at the sky. However, you also don’t want to miss a view like the insane shot above. Fortunately, the fine folks at the NPR Skunk Bear science blog have put together the graphic below to let you know exactly when to start mooning over the moon. The “penumbra,” incidentally, indicates when you’ll see the Earth’s first faint shadow. The “Umbra” is when you’ll see the shadow that’s all dark and red and bloody. We think that’s right. Science is hard.
And if you need something even more specific, your tax dollars are also at work at the U.S. Naval Observatory, where they have an online calculator where you can enter your location. This’ll still give you a ballpark figure, though, which is good enough for the scientists here at COED…
