HUVR Hover Boards: What Are They Really Selling? [VIDEO]

huvr board

A YouTube video that’s making the viral rounds claims for a technology company claims that it has finally brought the world a hover board.

A company calling itself “HUVr” posted a couple of video online purporting to be demonstrations of a new floating hover skateboard like the ones in Back to the Future Part II. The video starts out with an appearance by the man who played the wily inventor Doc Brown in all three of the BTTF movies driving up to the demonstration area in (what else?) a Delorean DMC-12 with a large case that looks like it’s carrying some kind of misshaped keyboard. Instead, he hands the case to Tony Hawk who opens it and reveals that it’s some kind of skateboard deck that in fact functions as a hover board. The video also included cameos by celebrities such as Moby and Terrell Owens who after what he’s been through recently is clearly doing this for the money.

Of course, it didn’t take long for the Internet to call “BS” on the video because they secretly really wish we had hover boards since we still don’t have flying cars like we were promised before the start of the millennium. Several people on Reddit claimed they could see the harness under the shirts of the people riding the board and someone on Reddit noticed a shot of what looks like the shadow of a crane carrying one of the “hover board riders” around the parking lot.

So if it’s not about hover boards, then what exactly is this about and why are they trying to fool us? There are a couple of possibilities. This could just be a clever way to get some viral marketing done for the upcoming reboot of the Tony Hawk skateboarding video game franchise that dropped off a cliff after the dismal sales of the motion controlled RIDE gameIt could also be Nike’s attempt to tease us about the new Nike MAGs styled after Marty McFly’s self-lacing sneakers in BTTF II that a company spokesman claimed would be unveiled sometime in 2015.
