ABOUT Amanda
Carthage College, Junior
I love my college because….
it’s a small school with great academics, close to home, and allows me to continue my cross country and track career. When I found Carthage, I fell in love. It fulfilled all of my needs and more. Carthage is better than the rest due to the amazing, tight-knit experience it provides, its modern campus, and the gorgeous view – we’re right on Lake Michigan!
I really hate when…
people have bad grammar. I even double check my texts before sending them – autocorrect is either a godsend or a nightmare.
I major in…
Communications and Public Relations. My ultimate dream is to be a writer, whether it be of novels or writing for news, magazines or online publications. I am also seriously considering working in editing or as a publicist. The beauty of my majors is that they offer a wide range of opportunities.
My hometown is awesome because…
I have access to so many things downtown such as beaches, restaurants, and malls, but can also take the time to run and relax in my neighborhood. Everyone is very into planting and taking care of their yards, so walks around my hometown are very beautiful and scenic. The people are very friendly too.
At school, you can find me…
running for the cross country and track teams; I am a proud Lady Red. I also just recently joined the National Communications Honor Society, Lambda Pi Eta and write for my college’s chapter on The Odyssey, a wonderful online publication.
The coolest class I’ve taken so far is…
definitely my Visual Communications class. I love working with typography, and it was a fun way to branch out from writing and learn how to use visuals to convey influential messages.
My ideal first date would be…
just relaxing, being comfortable, and simply talking. Whether it’s over a fancy dinner or a box of pizza, it doesn’t matter to me. I love to just simply connect.
My favorite late night study snack is definitely…
pizza, hands down.
If I could change one thing about the world, it would be…
all of the unnecessary negativity. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, however, if an issue such as gay marriage isn’t directly impacting you, then why bring others down for it?
I’m going to be Miss COED 2017 because…
I am proud of who I am, where I came from, and who I want to be. Self-love and confidence in yourself are everything, and I want to be a voice for girls and young women who are finding themselves and learning to embrace who they are.
