Zoe Saldana is in the news for starring in Nina — a Nina Simone biopic where nobody’s getting credit for making a movie about an important African-American figure in modern music. Instead, Zoe’s getting crap for signing on to play the role despite not being dark enough as a Dominican actress. Also, the first trailer for Nina reveals that Zoe’s wearing a prosthetic nose, which doesn’t seem to be nearly as popular as when Nicole Kidman did the same for The Hours.
It was just back in 2005 that Zoe was officially dark enough to star with Ashton Kutcher in a remake of Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner. That was before the New Jersey native’s career really bloomed as a franchise gal in Star Trek — plus the franchises-ready-to-happen with Avatar and Guardians of the Galaxy.
We were fans back in 2003, though, thanks to Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. We’ve even been waiting a decade for the long-shelved Temptation to finally get a release. And did you check out Zoe as the lesbian love interest of Mila Kunis in 2007’s After Sex? We did. A lot.
Zoe doesn’t really have to worry much about her career with at least five blockbuster films already in her future. Still, we hate to see her getting flack for taking on a role like Nina Simone. We’re going to be less judgmental — and spend our time judging these hottest photos of Zoe Saldana. That should make anybody feel better. Especially since we added some stills from After Sex…
