Miesha Tate is going up against Holly Holm tonight in Las Vegas for UFC Fight Night 196 — and it’s Holly’s first match since her spectacular upset against Ronda Rousey to win the Women’s Bantamweight Championship title last year. That makes this match a very big deal. Miesha is kind of the underdog, having already lost a title match against Ronda. Holly still seems to have the right mindset. She’s already said that she doesn’t want to be a fluke champion. “I mean,” said Holly, “I don’t want to be a one-hit wonder. A lot of people are wondering ‘what’s really going to happen now after that kind of a victory?'”
Miesha is also probably disappointed that she isn’t getting a rematch against Ronda — and she’ll also screw up some big money deals if she takes the title away from Holly. A lot of UFC executives are already counting the money they’ll make from a Holms/Rousey rematch.
We don’t care about money here at COED, however. As proud feminists, we’re just thrilled with how the UFC champions keep showing off how a top UFC fighter can still be a sex symbol. That’s pretty inspiring. Miesha Tate will be another fine example if she manages to win the title tonight.
The bad news, though, is that Miesha already has a boyfriend. The kind of boyfriend who can kill us, too, since she met Bryan Caraway when she asked the MMA fighter to help her out with some training. Yeah.
