You don’t often see people talking about David Letterman the morning after a Late Show–unless Steve Martin or Bill Murray is involved. But it’s nice to see that Dave still has the clout to bring in Tom Hanks when Brian Williams has to quickly cancel in the midst of a career scandal.
He got a late-night highlight out of it, too, thanks to Hanks riffing on how David Letterman is going to be acting in retirement. It’s nice to see a talk show bit that’s just built around talking, instead of some kind of lip-syncing spectacle or big production number. Let’s see if Colbert can manage the same. Now we’re mostly wishing Tom Hanks was taking over The Late Show…
