Conor McGregor has escaped all felony charges. Following his involvement in a crazed rampage at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York back on April 5, “Notorious” was in court Thursday, July 26. The former two-division UFC champion struck a plea deal with prosecutors, pleading guilty to a single violation of disorderly conduct. During the incident, McGregor picked up a dolly and threw it through a bus window, injuring fighters Ray Borg and Michael Chiesa which forced them off the card.
As a result of his plea deal, which was struck in just over a half of an hour, McGregor will have to serve five days of community service, restitution fees for the damage he caused to the shuttle bus, and an anger management evaluation.
“Conor McGregor has been dismissed of all felony accounts,” MMA Fighting posted on Twitter. “He will have to do 5 days of community service, pay restitution for the damage to the bus, and enter anger management evaluation. Cian Cowley has been ordered to do 3 days of community service and anger management program,. The damage to the bus was covered by Conor McGregor.”
In addition, a restraining order has been put in place which restricts McGregor from going near Borg or Chiesa until July 2020.
Now that McGregor’s legal issues are behind him, the path has been cleared for the Irishman to return to the Octagon.
Following UFC 225 in Chicago on Saturday, June 9, UFC president Dana White spoke to the media and revealed his plans for McGregor’s highly-anticipated return to action. In fact, White went as far as to announce who the promotion plans to put McGregor in the ring against. The opponent: undefeated lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
“I think Khabib is a massive fight with Conor,” White said. “I think that’s the fight to happen right now. Listen, if Georges St-Pierre wants to move to 155, prove he can make it and fight the No. 1 contender down there. Then absolutely I’d do it.”
Now, all we have to do is wait for the bout to be scheduled.
