London’s Trafalgar Square has been evacuated after a ‘suspicious package’ was found.

What’s Happening?
Reports are coming in of armed police clearing the square around 3:00 P.M. local time.
Officers are on scene investigating the package and a Met Police spokesman said it was too early to tell if it was being treated as a terror-related incident. The package was reportedly found on Duncannon Street, which connects the busy central London train terminus with Trafalgar Square.
The area has been cleared and a perimeter has been set up around the popular tourist attraction. Charing Cross station has been closed as a precaution and people are being told to stay indoors.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “Specialist officers are in attendance and cordons are in place. As a precaution Charing Cross train station has been closed.”
Later, its Twitter account added: “Police called to reports of a suspicious item in Charing Cross. Not being treated as terrorist related at this time. No injuries.
“The incident in Charing Cross has now been stood down. Cordons will be lifted shortly.”
Transport for London tweeted: “A400 Charing Cross Road is closed northbound between Trafalgar Square and Cranbourn Street due to a police incident.”
The lockdown comes just days after a terrorist attack at the London Bridge that left eight dead and 48 injured and just weeks after the Manchester bombing that claimed the lives of 23 individuals and injured 119.

Its name commemorates the Battle of Trafalgar, a British naval victory in the Napoleonic Wars with France and Spain that took place on 21 October 1805 off the coast of Cape Trafalgar, Spain.
