Don’t let the Atlantic 10 name fool you, as there will be 14 teams battling to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The 2017 Atlantic 10 Tournament is set to take place from Wednesday, March 8 through Sunday, March 12 at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Dayton and VCU are considered the front-runners to win the tournament, as they finished first and second in the regular season, respectively. Dayton posted a 15-3 in-conference record, while VCU went 14-4 in the Atlantic 10. Joe Lunardi currently has Dayton in the NCAA Tournament as an 8-seed and VCU in as a 9-seed, so both of these schools can clearly play.
In last year’s Atlantic 10 Tournament, Saint Joseph’s defeated VCU in the championship game 87-74 to punch their ticket to the big dance. They went on to beat Cincinnati in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in a nail-biting finish.
