Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever flashed “W” signs with their fingers as Atlanta Dream fans showered them with boos following their series-clinching Game 3 victory. The team clearly enjoyed the hostile reaction as they walked off the court with the playoff win secured.

The Fever managed to advance past the Dream in the first round of the WNBA playoffs, taking the series 2-1 – all without their rookie superstar. Clark, who’s been sidelined since July 15 with a groin injury, appeared in just 13 games this season. During that limited action, she averaged 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, and 5.0 rebounds per game before winning WNBA Rookie of the Year honors.

Indiana’s victory is particularly impressive considering they’re also missing veteran guard Sophie Cunningham, who’s out for the remainder of the season.

Dream fans didn’t hide their disappointment as the visiting team departed.

The road gets significantly tougher for Indiana in the semi-finals. They’ll face the defending champion Las Vegas Aces and three-time league MVP A’ja Wilson in what promises to be a challenging matchup.

Meanwhile, the #1 seeded Minnesota Lynx await the winner of Friday’s decisive Game 3 between the Phoenix Mercury and New York Liberty. That series stands tied at 1-1 heading into the 9 p.m. EST tipoff in Arizona.

The Fever’s unexpected playoff success without their star rookie has been one of the WNBA’s most compelling storylines this season.
