UFC 244 Medical Suspensions: Diaz Could Be Sidelined 3 Months

The Ultimate Fighting Championship made the trip to Madison Square Garden in New York City for UFC 244 on Saturday, November 2. In the main event, Jorge Masvidal was able to put together a dominant performance against fellow fan-favorite Nate Diaz to claim the Baddest Motherf*cker (BMF) title via doctor’s stoppage after three rounds.

Diaz suffered two deep cuts around his right eye which ultimately led to the doctor’s stoppage.

Earlier on the main card, the previously undefeated Gregor Gillespie suffered a devastating knockout loss to Kevin Lee to open the pay-per-view. Gillespie ate a head kick from Lee and immediately crashed to the canvas unconscious in one of the most impressive knockouts of the year.

On Tuesday, November 5, the New York State Athletic Commission announced the full list of medical suspensions from the event which includes potential three-month layoffs for both Diaz and Gillespie. Makwan Amirkhani, Andrei Arlovski, and Chance Rencountre also received the 90-day bans which were the most severe of the night.
