Cierre Wood, a former NFL running back who played college football at the University of Notre Dame, has been charged with first-degree murder for the alleged killing of his girlfriend’s 5-year-old daughter.
According to the Las Vegas police department, the 28-year-old Wood was arrested by police on Wednesday, April 10 at the Summerlin Hospital in Las Vegas for his role in the death of La-Rayah Davis.
La-Rayah Davis, just five-years-old, died on the night of Tuesday, April 9. The Las Vegas Police Department announced the arrest of Wood and Taylor on Thursday, April 11.
At this time, La-Rayah Davis’s cause of death has not been disclosed.
Wood’s girlfriend Amy Taylor, 25-years-old, was also arrested and charged. Both have been charged with first-degree child abuse, while Wood has also been charged with first-degree murder.
While Wood is being held in jail without bond, Taylor was released on $5,000 bond. Wood is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, April 15.
Wood played running back for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team for three seasons from 2010 to 2013. During his final season at Notre Dame, the Fighting Irish lost in the BCS National Championship Game to the University of Alabama Crimson Tide.
During his college career, Wood ran for 2,447 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns.
His most recent stint in professional football came in 2018 when he was playing for the Montreal Alouettes in the Canadian Football League. Wood was cut by the Montreal Alouettes back in May 2018.
