Conor McGregor has been very vocal on social media recently, taking plenty of jabs at UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov as he angles for a rematch. McGregor lost to Khabib in his most recent outing and has been actively campaigning for another shot at gold.
This time around, McGregor is trying to discredit Khabib by saying he was not at 100 percent the last time he entered the cage with “The Eagle.”
While responding to a fan on Twitter, McGregor claimed that he had suffered a broken foot ahead of the Nurmagomedov fight.
McGregor wrote:
I broke my foot 3 weeks out from the bout.
I still marched forward however, and also landed the final blows of the night.
On his blood brother.
I am happy with how the contest went and the lessons learned.
In my fighting and more importantly my preparation.
Time will reveal all.

We will have to see whether the UFC ultimately grants McGregor a rematch with Nurmagomedov or whether he will have to win another fight before returning as a title challenger. Of course, with the way the two men have been going after each other on social media and the way the rivalry has escalated, the UFC may choose to let things cool down before locking them in a cage together again.
Neither McGregor nor Nurmagomedov have fought since their October 6, 2018 bout, when Nurmagomedov scored a fourth-round submission victory over McGregor.
With his win over McGregor, Khabib advanced to 27-0 in his professional career. His 27 consecutive wins give him the longest winning streak in all of mixed martial arts. Khabib first won the vacant lightweight championship on April 7, 2018, at UFC 223 when he scored a dominant decision win over Al Iaquinta in Brooklyn, New York. He became the first Russian to win a UFC title. The submission victory over McGregor was his first title defense. McGregor has also not competed since the loss.
