Rebecca Ruth Anderson has been identified as the 23-year-old sheriff’s officer “jailer” who turned herself into authorities on Friday, March 22 for allegedly having an “inappropriate relationship” with an inmate.
Police had put out a warrant for Anderson’s arrest for violating the rights of a person in custody, which is a felony charge in Texas that carries a $5,000 bond.
Anderson, who worked as a jailer at the Hood County Sheriff’s Office from March 2017 to July 2018, allegedly carried out an “inappropriate relationship” with an inmate during that time.
According to various reports, the Texas Rangers investigated the alleged illicit relationship prior to Anderson’s arrest.
“I am very disappointed over this situation and expect more from my employees. I do not tolerate employees that break the law and requested the Texas Rangers investigate the allegation that was brought to my attention,” Sheriff Roger Deeds said in a statement.
“As an elected official, I try to be transparent as possible and let the public know what is going on at the Hood County Sheriff’s Office,” Deeds continued.
Rebecca Ruth Anderson is just one of a handful of jail employees to be arrested and charged for sexual relationships with inmates in recent years.
In January 2019, Sinead Nichole Hagan was arrested for having sex with “multiple” inmates.
In December 2018, Rebecca Carol Adams was arrested for having sex with an inmate at the Newberry Detention Center in 2003.
Additionally, in June 2017, Deensesha Carter was arrested for allegedly having sex with a convicted murder.
At this time, it is not clear when Anderson’s next scheduled court appearance is.
