We all know the famous “Me, Myself & I” I rapper from his Bay Area sound and his off-on relationship with alternative pop princess Halsey. G-Eazy has really come into his own in 2018, releasing his sophomore album “The Beautiful & The Damned” at the end of 2017. Let’s see how this Los Angeles native got his start and just how much money he’s made along the way.

Gerald Earl Gillum was born on May 24th, 1989 in Oakland, California. G’s father Edward was an art professor at California State University in Fresno. While his mother Suzanne was an artist and teacher. Gerald grew up with a younger brother James. When the happily home dissembled while Gerald was in first grade, he and his brother were raised solely by his mother.
Suzanne had to work two teaching jobs just to keep these boys fed and clothed every night. Money was constantly a struggle, eventually, she and her sons moved into her parents home. G was always taught the value of a dollar, getting his first job at the young age of only fourteen at Top Dog a restaurant chain in the area.
Gerald went to Berkley High School, this is where his passion for hip-hop began to thrive. Berkley High School at the time was home to the hip-hop act the Pack. At the time G’s budding artist peers had a Billboard hit. When this local group from his neighbor achieved stardom, G wasn’t going to let anything stand in his way of being next on the list.

G- Eazy’s original rap sound was called hyphy, a rowdy underground Northern California sound. But he changed his style once he moved from California to New Orleans for college in 2007. This is where he truly created his own sound. He mixed hyphy with bounce hip-hop, a familiar style popularized by Lil Wayne at the time. Who happened to be one of young G’s musical heroes growing up.
G-Eazy chose to pursue a bachelors of arts degree at Loyola University with a major in Music Industries studies. He thought this would help progress in knowledge in the production and creation process of hip-hop as well. While attending college G released several self-produced mixtapes as digital downloads on his campus. This included the following “The Tipping Point” in 2008 followed by “Sikkis on the Planet” and “Quarantine” in 2009. In 2010 the future legend in the making released “Big” and then “The Outsider” in 2011.

When G-Eazy graduated that year he was known for his music on campus. He was even given the opportunity to tour with Lil Wayne and Drake. He took this opportunity to learn from his mentors and make his performance and music even better than it was. G dropped another mixtape in August shortly after that titled “The Endless Summer” In 2012 G-Eazy had gained enough notoriety to self-release his very first album titled “Must Be Nice”, which went to number thirty-three on the Billboard R&B/ hip-hop chart and number three on the iTunes hip-hop chart.
G-Eazy had made a name for himself in the hip-hop work like he had always dreamt about. G went onto release his major-label debut in June 2014 titled “These Things Happen” on RCA. The album peaked at number three on the Billboard album chart and was certified gold by the RIAA. In November of 2015 G dropped his sophomore album titled “When It’s Dark Out”. This album was certified platinum and included his lead single with Bebe Rexha “Me, Myself & I”. G’s third album was released in December of 2017 titled “The Beautiful & Damned. He is currently touring for this album. I can’t wait to see what music he comes out with next!
