Cesar Sayoc has been identified as the Florida man who has been placed under arrest in connection to suspected explosive devices sent to top Democrats across the country. Sayoc is reportedly a 56-years-old former New Yorker who currently lives in Florida and is a registered Republican.
What Happened?
News of Sayoc’s arrest comes as emergency responders found another suspicious package — this one addressed to former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper — at a mail facility in Midtown Manhattan on the morning of Friday, October 26. In total, 12 potential explosive devices have been recovered.
According to reports, Broward County Sheriff’s Officers made the arrest of Sayoc near the AutoZone on State Road 7 and Southwest 6th Street in Plantation, Florida. Additionally, reports indicate that “there was some sort of confrontation when the arrest was made.”
One journalist tweeted that when the arrest was made, authorities surrounded a white van “filled with images of [President Donald] Trump.”
Police say that DNA evidence played a role in the arrest of Sayoc.

Over the course of the past week, suspected explosive devices — mainly pipe bombs — were mailed to various critics and opponent of President Donald Trump, including the Obamas, the Clintons, CNN, George Soros, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker, Rober De Niro, Maxine Waters, Sen. Kamala Harris, U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and more.
At this time, it is not clear if Sayoc is the only person involved in the attempted attacks.
President Trump tweeted his response to the explosive devices being sent to his critics, saying:
“A very big part of the Anger we see today in our society is caused by the purposely false and inaccurate reporting of the Mainstream Media that I refer to as Fake News. It has gotten so bad and hateful that it is beyond description. Mainstream Media must clean up its act, FAST!”
The following day, President Trump tweeted about the potential bombing of CNN again, saying:
“Funny how lowly rated CNN, and others, can criticize me at will, even blaming me for the current spate of Bombs and ridiculously comparing this to September 11th and the Oklahoma City bombing, yet when I criticize them they go wild and scream, “it’s just not Presidential!”
