Nicco Montano Hospitalized; UFC 228 Bout Vs. Valentina Shevchenko Scrapped

Nicco Montano is out of her scheduled UFC 228 title defense against Valentina Shevchenko. On Friday, Sept. 7, Montano was set to hit the scale for the official fighter weigh-ins when she was hospitalized due to weight-cutting complications.
As a result, Montano vs. Shevchenko — which was scheduled as the co-main event — has been scrapped.
“As a precautionary measure, UFC flyweight Nicco Montano was transported to a medical facility Friday morning due to health concerns,” the UFC said in a statement. “The scheduled flyweight championship bout between Montano and Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 228 has been canceled.”
There is no word on what bout will replace Montano vs. Shevchenko on the pay-per-view card.
Montano (4-2) won the inaugural UFC women’s flyweight championship on December 1, 2017 when she defeated Roxanne Modafferi at The Ultimate Fighter 26 Finale.
