Kyrell McBride-Johnson, Eighth Grade Football Player, Dies During Practice

There is tragic news out of Summer Creek Middle School in Fort Worth, Texas. Kyrell McBride-Johnson, an eighth-grade student at the school, died on Wednesday night after becoming unresponsive during a practice with the football team. The 13-year-old was taken to the Texas Health Methodist Hospital Southwest and Cook Children’s Medical Center before ultimately passing away.
An official cause of death has yet to be revealed.
“The entire Crowley ISD community is incredibly saddened by this tragedy and the loss of this young life. We do not yet know what caused Kyrell’s passing, but our priority right now is to provide support and care to the family, friends and educators who knew and loved him,” school superintendent Michael McFarland said, via the Star-Telegram.
It was just the second day of classes at the school.

According to Anthony Kirchner, the district spokesman, the school district is working to get grief counselors in place for the students, parents, and staff.
