WATCH: UFC's Jared Gordon Involved In Street Fight With Gang Members, Nearly Loses 3 Fingers

UFC fighter Jared Gordon was minding his own business ahead of his most recent outing inside of the Octagon, when he found himself involved in a street fight with two members of a local gang. According to Gordon, he was outside of a barbershop waiting his turn when two members of the GS9 Crips in New York approached him and his friend.
The gang members spit on Gordon’s friend before throwing a sucker punch.
After the first swing from the assailants, Gordon jumped into action and quickly showed the gang members that they were messing with the wrong group of guys.
Eventually, the fight was separated and everyone went their own way, but it almost turned out to be an awful situation for Gordon. Gordon and the man he was fighting crashed through a store window and the glass came showering down. Because of the glass flying, Gordon suffered serious cuts on his hand that he says nearly cost him three fingers.
Here is video of the altercation:

And below are photos of Gordon’s injured hand.

The cuts required 21 stitches.

“I have never brought this up before, because I am not one to make excuses and I don’t want to make it look like I am making excuses,” Gordon said, via Bloody Elbow. “I took the fight because I didn’t want to pull out. I had missed weight before in my first fight, and this was my third fight — the last thing that I wanted to do was pull out and have it look like I was having weight cutting problems again or make it look like I am unreliable,” he added.

“I had a terrible training camp because I couldn’t spar or wrestle or do jiu-jitsu,” he said. “All I did was run and shadow box and kick the bag for the whole fight camp, because I had one hand. Hats off to Diego; he did what he had to do. Nothing against him. But, I just think that if the fight camp didn’t go down the way it did, [the fight] would be different. It is what it is.”

Unfortunately for Gordon, at UFC Fight Night 126 he saw his five-fight winning streak come to an end after suffering a TKO loss to Carlos Diego Ferreira in the first round. Hopefully he will have the opportunity to get back in the cage soon and return to the win column.
