The FIFA World Cup is only played for one month of the summer every four years. This summer the tournament has taken place all over Russia and we have finally reached the final with two teams that not many people had predicted would be there. Croatia defeated England in the semifinal round, following a great game that went into extra time. Meanwhile, France emerged victorious over Belgium, in what turned out to be a rather underwhelming game by most accounts. Some experts believed that France could have a chance to win it all if things feel there way. When Brazil was upset by Belgium in the quarterfinals it opened the door for France as the favorite to win it all.
On the other side of the bracket, nobody had been predicting Croatia would make it this far. Especially since they were in the same group as Argentina and many had pegged Argentina to win the group. They are officially the smallest country to ever make the World Cup Final when measured by population size. In fact, there are more than double the amount of people in New York City than in the entire country of Croatia. Croatia has stunned the world and has made an impressive run winning all three of their knockout stage games in either extra time or penalty kicks.
France will be looking to claim their second FIFA World Cup title after winning in front of the home fans in 1998. Croatia will be playing in their first major tournament final, which means they will be looking for their first ever World Cup.
