Same goes for professors, and you will be lucky if they even know your name by the end of the semester or quarter. It’s best to pay attention and take notes rather than making friends in class. In high school, you were able to sneak some fun whispers and make friends. College you need to pay attention or else you will fail, and no one can help you when you fail.

In high school, there was the real pressure in finding who you are and what clique you belong to. You were scared of what to wear or how to look for people to like you. The benefit of college life is no one cares how you look or what you wear. College makes sweatpants look like the in thing. College students are focused on studying and getting a good grade that they don’t care what they look like when they come into the light. They could wear a trash can and not care. It’s a beautiful thing of college students not judging each other because they are experiencing the same stress everyone else is feeling. But don’t worry about this causing you not to meet new people or create friendships. That’s what’s nice about not caring about how you look, everyone bonds through not caring. Friendships in college last longer than they do in high school. It’s temporary in high school while in college friendships can last a lifetime.

Laziness is fundamentally unacceptable in college. You were able to be lazy in high school and merely get a warning or the occasional wag of the finger. In college, you have to responsible for yourself and get your work done, or you are in a situation of not graduating on time and having to pay for another semester or year of classes. Making sure you don’t fail you do everything in your power to study hard and ace every paper and exam by living in the library. Say goodbye to those natural homework moments of finishing all your high school work in one night. You will be meeting the endless amounts of homework when you enter college.

Money is something you will say goodbye to and barely see again. It’s like the family member that disappears for large amounts of time and make random appearances. That’s money for a college student. High school everything was paid by your parents. Some college students are lucky, and their parents may pay for college but not the extracurricular experiences that come with it. College, you must pay for yourself. The lack of money causes college students to carefully watch what they spend to allow them not to go broke.

Independence is significant in entering college because everyone is in the stepping stones to become an adult. There were strict rules in high school with a curfew, living situations, and time management. In college, you are the rule makers for your own life. You choose your curfew, you get to decide where to live, and you get to manage your schedule. Now, this can be a slippery slope for most where they abuse this independence and end up stuck in a situation that they must get themselves out of or face the consequences. If you are smart, you can find having your independence rewarding and eventually become an actual full grown adult.
College can be hard, but the one thing to know and take with your everywhere is, you can make mistakes. A college is a place where you are creating a new life but creating something can lead to bumps in the road that will cause you to fall apart. These are mistakes that are easy to fix and ones you can learn from in the end. College isn’t a perfect place, nothing and no one is perfect. You are allowed to mess up and fall, it’s natural. The part that makes a college student better than before is how they get themselves to fix that mistake.
