UPDATE: UFC 228 remains up in the air. While the Sept. 15 date was targeted for the Moscow, Russia pay-per-view, it will now be a UFC Fight Night Card. The UFC officially announced on Wednesday, May 16 that the Sept. 15 date will be at Moscow’s Olimpiyskiy Arena. Tickets for the event will go on sale June 1. UFC 228 will now take place on Sept. 8 at American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.
In the main event, welterweight champion Tyron Woodley will defend his title against undefeated challenger Darren Till.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship will kickoff the final quarter of the year with UFC 228 in September. There is very little information about the event at this time, but some intriguing rumors have been making the rounds and there is a potential location and venue that has been floated around. According to multiple media reports, the UFC is currently targeting a Sept. 15 trip to Olympic Stadium in Moscow, Russia — it would be the UFC’s first-ever event held in the country.
No fights have officially been announced for the event, though plenty of Russian fighters — most likely Khabib Nurmagomedov and Zabit Magomedsharipov — have expressed their desire to fight in front of their home crowds.
UFC 228 will be preceded by UFC 227: Dillashaw vs. Garbrandt 2 which takes place on Aug. 4 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw is scheduled to defend his title against his former teammate and top rival Cody Garbrandt, who Dillashaw defeated to claim the title in November of last year. There are also rumors that the UFC is targeting a lightweight bout between MMA legend Georges St-Pierre and fan favorite Nate Diaz, along with a light heavyweight fight between former middleweight king Luke Rockhold and former 205-pound contender Alexander Gustafsson.
