The Ultimate Fighting Championship is making its return to network television on Saturday, April 14 with UFC on FOX 29: Poirier vs. Gaethje at the Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona. In the main event, lightweight contenders Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje, a former WSOF lightweight champion, are set to go head-to-head in what promises to be a thrilling fight. Poirier enters the fight as the No. 5-ranked contender at 155-pounds, while Gaethje sits one spot behind at No. 6.
“The Diamond” is fresh off of an impressive body triangle submission victory over former titleholder Anthony Pettis. Poirier has not tasted defeat since a knockout loss to Michael Johnson in Sept. 2016. Gaethje, meanwhile, suffered the first loss of his professional career last December when he was knocked out by former champ Eddie Alvarez. Gaethje had previously scored a TKO victory over Michael Johnson in his UFC debut which was a Fight of the Year contender.
In the co-main event, welterweights Carlos Condit and Alex Oliveira face off. Condit was initially set to face Matt Brown, but “Immortal” suffered a torn ACL and was forced to withdraw from the event.
