Veterans Day is a time set aside to honor our men and women in uniform. They’ve fought hard all throughout history for conquest, defense, gold, glory, and everything in between. The day dedicated to veterans goes back to November 11, 1919, as “Armistice Day” to celebrate the end of World War I, then known as The Great War or the war to end all wars. Veterans Day also coincides with Remembrance Day, which is celebrated by a Commonwealth of Nations to also commemorate the end of the first World War.
Words from the battlefield can be inspirational to even the most peaceful hearts. These quotes inspire courage in the face of danger – to fight on against a hostile force trying to take away your freedom. But then there are words who also find peace and people make friends with bloody rivals. Through the years, England and the United States went from bitter enemies to the best of allies, demonstrating that cultures, countries and people can forgive the wars of yesterday and move forward together with the battles an almost ancient memory.
