Elyria High School, located in Elyria, Ohio, was put on lockdown Monday afternoon. Officials say there was possibly a person with a gun on school grounds.

What Happened?
UPDATE: Students at Elyria High School were released early Monday after a reported threat. The school enabled early dismissal around 1:00 P.M. ET.

Elyria High School posted the following message to its Facebook page:

Elyria Schools spokeswoman Amy Higgins said that the school was placed on lockdown as a result of a threat called into 911 earlier Monday. She did not specify what kind of threat was made.
“Parents should not come to the high school. Everybody is safe,” Higgins said.

According to the school, all faculty and students are safe and emergency personnel are on site. Parents are being asked to avoid the school and instead meet at the nearby Mr. Hero on Middle Avenue.
Authorities are on scene conducting a sweep of the building following the report of a possible threat inside the school.

Elyria High School is a high school in Elyria, Ohio. Founded in 1830, it is notable for being the first chartered high school west of the Allegheny Mountains. Elyria High School athletic teams compete in the newly formed Northeast Ohio Conference. The school serves roughly 2,113 students across grades 9-12.
