NBC Sports reported that both men were fine.
What Happened?
IMPD arrested two juvenile suspects after they allegedly robbed the Indy drivers at gunpoint. According to a police report, Dixon’s wife was also present during the incident.
Franchitti, who was previously married to actress Ashley Judd, is retired from the sport. The robbery took place just hours after Dixon won the pole for this Sunday’s race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Tony Kanaan had this to say about the incident:
“”Dixon had a late night with the pole and stuff and we were all starving. I decided that we need to grab dinner and Dixon was gonna buy dinner for obvious reasons. We’re hanging in the bus lot, so we sent him out to get some drive-thru here on 16th Street at Taco Bell. While they were ordering with the windows down, two guys approached them at gunpoint and put a gun on Dixon’s head and asked him for his wallet and his phone. I guess he didn’t have his phone. He had his wife’s wallet because he left his wallet … So he gave them the wallet and those guys left. But I guess later on at night they caught those two guys.
“You don’t expect that to happen, especially here,” Kanaan added. “I don’t know. It’s like, you’re going through a drive-thru. I’m never gonna be, like, alert at a drive-thru thinking someone’s gonna point a gun at my head while I’m trying to buy a $20 fast food.”
