The four-seed Los Angeles Clippers and the five-seed Utah Jazz are the only teams that needed a Game 7 to decide their first round series. While this is a highly stressful development for fans of these two teams, it’s fantastic news for a neutral basketball lover.
Just a couple of days ago, it seemed like the Jazz were in great shape to advance to the next round. They were up 3-2 in the series with home court advantage in Game 6, but the Blake Griffin-less Clippers somehow found a way to keep their season alive with a 98-93 victory. Chris Paul put the team on his back, scoring 29 points on 10-of-20 shooting from the floor while grabbing three rebounds, dishing out eight assists, and snatching two steals.

Gordon Hayward carried the load for the Jazz, leading all scorers with 31 points on 9-of-20 shooting from the floor. He also chipped in seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals in an all-around magnificent performance. But Hayward was one of Utah’s lone bright spots, as the Jazz only hit 41.0% from the floor, 26.9% from three-point range, and 66.7% from the free throw line.
