The White House is currently on lockdown due to a suspicious package. According to reports, a man approached the White House and claimed to have a bomb.
What Happened?
The Secret Service is currently investigating a suspicious package near White House grounds. The package is reportedly located near the south lawn. It is believed that a man approached Secret Service at the White House and claimed to have a bomb.
All media members currently in the White House have been told to stay in the briefing room. The North Lawn is being evacuated and road closures are in effect.
UPDATE, 11:40 A.M. ET: A male suspect has been taken into custody.
The incident began around 10:25 A.M. EST Tuesday morning. Reporters were locked into the briefing room as the North Lawn began its evacuation and Secret Service investigated the “suspicious package.”

President Donald Trump was scheduled to begin his daily intelligence briefing when the incident took place. As of now, there is no indication that the president is facing a direct threat. Trump is scheduled to hold a listening session with the Fraternal Order of Police at 11:00 A.M. EST.
This lockdown comes after a series of recent security breaches, including a man who reportedly jumped the fence earlier this month. The man is said to have spent around 15 minutes on White House grounds before being apprehended. A woman was arrested last week on her third attempt to hop over the fence.
