Logan came out almost a month ago and I’m still shook. Now that I’ve had a couple weeks to sleep on it and let it marinate, I can confidently say it’s in my top five favorite films of all time. Hate on that as you will, but whatever, I’m a comic guy. One of my earliest movie-viewing memories is is seeing X2 with my dad when I was 10 years old. As we left the theater, I grabbed six straws, stuck them between my fingers, and pretended I was Wolverine for the rest of the day. Wolverine’s been with me for a long time, so seeing him sent off properly was big for me.
Now, to the “post-credits” scene. But first, the obligatory warning that you’re about to enter spoiler city:
So, at the end of Logan, Wolverine (relatively) predictably dies. It’s not so much that he dies, but how he dies. It’s heartbreaking and sad but also beautiful and freeing. A+ ending.
And THANKFULLY, Fox didn’t go all big-budget studio on us and force in a post-credit scene. It just wouldn’t have felt right.
But if they put this post-credit scene in there, I’m not going to pretend it would bothered me. Because it wouldn’t.
