(8) Northwestern is playing in their first ever NCAA Tournament, and it seems like they are trying to make up for lost time. In their first round game against (9) Vanderbilt, the Wildcats came out on top in a 68-66 thriller. It was a bizarre finish, as Matthew Fisher-Davis intentionally fouled Bryant McIntosh while Vanderbilt was leading by one point with roughly 15 seconds left.
Looking to put an end to Northwestern’s tournament run are the (1) Gonzaga Bulldogs. In Gonzaga’s first round game, (16) South Dakota State gave them some trouble early on, as the Bulldogs took only a 26-22 lead into halftime. They found their stride in the second half, though, coasting to a 66-46 victory.
While Northwestern is gunning for their first trip to the Sweet Sixteen, Gonzaga will try to hit this milestone for the eighth time in their program’s history. This would be the Bulldogs’ third consecutive trip to the Sweet Sixteen, but they obviously have much bigger goals in 2017 with their star-studded roster.
