December 14, 2015 was the Season two finale of Fargo. That’s a loooong time for a TV show to be away, but showrunner Noah Hawley hasn’t been sitting around playing in that North Dakota snow all this time. He’s continued to hone his skills by creating FX’s equally popular new series Legion. No doubt he’s learned some new tricks that will make this new season of Fargo even better.
When Does Fargo Return/Start?
Fargo will return for its third season on April 19. Due to Hawley’s commitment to Legion and the need for wintery conditions to properly shoot Fargo, the show was unable to air a new season in 2016.

Fargo‘s second season was arguably a flawless year of television. Taking place roughly 30 years before the events of season 1, Hawley places a younger version of Lou Solverson (Molly’s father) at the center of a bloody battle between a local crime family and the bigwigs from Kansas City trying to encroach on their turf. The powdered keg is lit when the unrelated but not entirely innocent couple of Ed and Peggy Blumquist accidentally enter the fray in murderous fashion. What Hawley manages to do with these thinly connected stories is nothing short of spectacular. Fargo manages to interweave different threads and characters in seamless fashion while maintaining empathy and development for each of the season’s many moving pieces. The oddball humor that everyone loved from both the movie and the first season is present throughout, giving season two the perfect balance of light and dark. From the acting to the creative narration and presentation, the second season made a strong case for Fargo as TV’s best series.
Fargo Season 3 Plot

“Set in 2010, the third installment of Fargo centers on ‘Emmit’ and his slightly younger brother ‘Ray Stussy’ (Ewan McGregor). Emmit, the Parking Lot King of Minnesota, sees himself as an American success story, whereas Ray is more of a cautionary tale. Forever living in his more successful brother’s shadow, Ray is a balding and pot-bellied parole officer with a huge chip on his shoulder about the hand he’s been dealt – and he blames his brother. Their sibling rivalry follows a twisted path that begins with petty theft but soon leads to murder, mobsters and cut-throat competitive bridge. Carrie Coon stars as ‘Gloria Burgle,’ the steady chief of the local police department. A newly divorced mother, Gloria is trying to understand the new world around her, where people connect more intimately with their phones than with the people around them. Mary Elizabeth Winstead stars as Ray’s girlfriend, ‘Nikki Swango,’ a crafty and alluring recent parolee with a passion for competitive bridge. David Thewlis stars as ‘V.M. Vargas,’ a mysterious loner and true capitalist whose bosses plan to partner with Emmit, whether “’The Parking Lot King’ likes it or not.”
